Responsibility of collection: Collection of PPW fractions is done in a combination of bring and collections systems (see below for each PPW fraction). Of main importance for the bring system are the 12 civic amenity sites and several hundres so called "Wertstoffinseln" - recycling points/depot container. The recyling points are owned by the respective waste management companies. AWM (the Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb München) performs the duties of the public waste disposal authority of the city of Munich. It is operated as a separate entity and public body. Among other things, It is responsible for the collection and transportation of household waste, which is collected separately for different fractions (3-bin-system). Is further operates the 12 civic amenity sites of the city. Additionally to the collection system and the CAS, there are 930 recycling stations / depot containers installed in Munich. They are part of the Dual System and are emptied by the respective operators (as part of the Dual System). AWM is only providing special use permits for the installement of the recycling stations. Paper & cardboard: - The main part of generated paper & cardboard waste is collected via the blue paper bin (part of the 3-bins-system) from door-to-door. Metal: - Metal is mainly collected via civic amenity sites and to smaller parts via the bulky waste collection or mobile recyclable collection. Metal collected via bulky waste collection and mobile collection is also brought to containers at the civic amenity sites. Plastics: - Large plastic parts (such as styrofoam formed components) that cannot be collected via the container for light packaging, is collected via press containers at civic amenity sites. This does also apply for plastics which are not supposed to go to material recycling. - Hard plastics (e.g. polyethylene (PE( and polypropylene (PP)), which are suitable for recycling, are collected via a separate container at civic amenity sites. To a smaller extent, there is also a collection of such plastics possible at mobile recycable collections. - Light packaging (plastics of the dual system - German: Duales System) is collected via one of the 930 recycling points ("Wertstoffinseln") Glass: - Collection of packaging glas is done via the recycling points (part of the Dual System). There is a separate depot containers for each of the colours white, brown and green.
